Composition Booklet

Composition is perhaps the most difficult part of GCSE music and students can sometimes find it a struggle coming up with ideas for a composition and then furthering that idea to create an entire piece. The composition booklet above is designed to be a one-stop solution for both composition 1 (Integrated Portfolio, to students' own brief) and composition 2 (Practical Component, to exam set brief).

This booklet takes students from the very first stage where they need to come up with a melodic idea, a set of chords or a catchy rhythm to the very final stages where students will, hopefully, implement advanced compositional techniques such as key changes, inventive use of dynamics and advanced use of instrumentation.
